Program

1:30pm Breakout Session

Description
When the Texas legislature restructured the civil commitment program in 2015, many judges began to receive sexually violent predator civil commitment cases for the first time. These cases can be challenging for judges who are not familiar with this type of case. Erin K. Faseler, Civil Chief of the Special Prosecution Unit, has worked on these cases for over 13 years and will provide judges with the in’s and out’s of presiding over these civil commitments from beginning to end.

These factors can and do take a toll. Discuss major judicial concerns and stressors that may affect a judge’s personal ability to work effectively and efficiently, and how judges can take dominion over them to improve their own well-being.

An inspirational keynote address will be given by Marine Corporal Josh Bleill, who signed up with the United States Marine Corps to serve his country after September 11th. While serving in Iraq, Corporal Bleill was severely injured, resulting in the loss of both of his legs. After extensive rehabilitation, Corporal Bleill attacked his new life head-on. Let his powerful message of overcoming adversity and taking life one step at a time provide inspiration for your own life.
